The tkinter package (“Tk interface”) is the standard Python interface tothe Tk GUI toolkit. Both Tk and tkinter are available on most Unixplatforms, as well as on Windows systems. (Tk itself is not part of Python; itis maintained at ActiveState.) You can check that tkinter is properlyinstalled on your system by running python-mtkinter from the command line;this should open a window demonstrating a simple Tk interface.

Most of the time, tkinter is all you really need, but a number ofadditional modules are available as well. The Tk interface is located in abinary module named _tkinter. This module contains the low-levelinterface to Tk, and should never be used directly by application programmers.It is usually a shared library (or DLL), but might in some cases be staticallylinked with the Python interpreter.
